S- Is For Success!

“My future is bright.  Everything I do is a success.  I accomplish all my goals, and I feel good about all I achieve.”

Success is an Accomplishment

The above affirmation is found in my book, Out of Financial Hell:  A Journey into Divine Abundance.  S is for success in the D.A.W.E.S method of abundance, which is my personal method of success out of financial hell, of near bankruptcy.  When most of us think about success, we usually define it as attaining wealth or being rich, but success has a much broader definition in the D.A.W.E.S method of abundance.  In the D.A.W.E.S method, success is described as accomplishing your goals.   This is because there are many things in life to celebrate besides acquiring money; and as important as money is, money itself does not bring joy or happiness in life. Money is just simply a tool to buy things, whereas success is a value which we place on things we want to accomplish, and our ability to meet our goals, and it’s that accomplishment which brings happiness or joy, or at least something to celebrate.  Success therefore means different things to different people.   For example, for some, success might mean learning to speak a foreign language so as to be able to communicate with others who do not speak your language.   For parents, success might mean raising happy and well-adjusted children.   For an alcoholic, success might mean finally getting sober, and regaining control of their mind.    For me, success was finally getting out of deep debt, and finding economic stability.

Roadblocks to Success

The road to success is straight, but its easy to get side-tracked off the straight path of success.   As you travel along the road to success, you might meet detractors along the way who aren’t supportive of your efforts to be successful.  They mock, criticize or discourage, and when you do finally find success, they continue to mock, criticize or discourage.    Please be aware these are only distractions.   Don’t take anything they say personally or seriously.   They are voicing their own fears about success or may be jealous due to their own failures.  Their warnings or criticisms are borne out of their own fear of you being successful at something they themselves weren’t successful at.   Take what they say with a grain of salt.  Now, that does not mean you shouldn’t listen to all the cons, and possible pitfalls you might encounter along the way.   You should, because their experience can actually help you to avoid the same pitfalls they fell into, but you should in no way give up, just because there are challenges along the way.  Try to find ways around the challenges and focus on the challenges you are encountering.   Everybody’s situation is different.  Your set of circumstances may not be exactly the same as their set of circumstances.

Then there are those who are truly not for your success.   Totally avoid those people, because nothing you do is going to be right.  They will always be finding a fault somewhere, even when there is none.   I remember when I got into Physical therapy school, after years of struggling in low-paying jobs.   A financially well-off uncle of mine heard about it, and instead of congratulating me, he criticized me by saying I should have tried to get into medical school.  What?!!!  It wasn’t like he was going to sponsor my education in medical school either.  I was entering Physical therapy school with tuition scholarships and grants.  It was what I really wanted to do.  None of that was anything to celebrate in his eyes.

Focus on Your Goals

 The raising of Lazarus

Today is Lazarus Saturday in Orthodox Christianity, when Orthodox Christians celebrate the raising of Lazarus, as per John 11 of the gospels.   Jesus was successful in raising Lazarus from the dead, but not everyone was happy for Lazarus.   They focused on their fear of how powerful and influential Jesus would get, if word of the raising of Lazarus got around.   Sometimes people don’t want you to be successful, because they are afraid you will get more powerful and more influential than they are.   They fear they are going to lose their place of power in life, whatever that power may be.   It may be on the job in terms of promotions.  It may be in church in terms of church office.  It may be in your family, with family members trying to outdo each other in terms of who is more successful in life.   Let none of that distract you, and get you off track.  Focus on your goals, and find others who are supportive of your success. Your success will be the raising  up of Lazarus in your life.  It will be the raising up in your life of your gifts, talents and abilities which lie buried within you, and the resurrection all kinds of divinely-inspired help along your way.   If you do that, you will be on the road to success.
